After the electric bus project was completed, the project funds provided by the two governments also ran out。In 1996, Hong Kong's CLP Power company wanted to buy the electric bus and paid a deposit of HK $2 million。"We're going to start with two cars and then mass produce them。It was well said at the time that the American companies Westinghouse, Grumman and Hughes supplied the powertrain, motor controller, transmission and charger for $40,000。Then they suddenly raised the price to $100,000 a unit。The power system alone has reached this price, it is impossible to make ends meet, and we have to return the deposit of the Hong Kong company。This is the biggest blow to Sun Fengchun, he also once again firmly to master the core technology of the belief, decided to develop their own motor and controller。
Before joining the Sino-US electric Vehicle Project in 1992, Sun Fengchun was the director of the Vibration and Noise Laboratory of the Beijing Institute of Technology, which at that time was the best laboratory for scientific research and economic benefits in the university, and he was also the director of the automobile and motorcycle shock absorber testing center。
